I spent $300 renovating my own little cooking corner by turning my backsplash from painted to textured, giving my countertops a marble treatment with contact paper, and-my favorite part-placing faux hardwood floors over my dated vinyl tiles. It’s important to warm up the peel-and-stick paper with a blow dryer before removing it from walls and floors for counters, you should be able to peel it right off. Just remember that if you change your mind, removing the peel-and-stick material incorrectly can take paint off your walls. How long will your peel-and-stick makeover last? The answer really depends on how much wear and tear the surface gets. For kitchens, it’s best to select a countertop adhesive that is oilproof, waterproof, and heat-resistant. But some manufacturers (like SmartTiles, which I used) offer instructions for adhering their peel-and-stick product over tiles.
